Volgens http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Multiple-AngleFormulas.html kun je cos(3x) schrijven als 4 cos³x - 3 cos x.

Dat maakt jouw vergelijking:

4 cos³x - 3 cos x = cos x
4 cos³x - 4 cos x = 0
cos³x - cos x = 0
cos x (cos²x - 1) = 0
cos x = 0 (1) of cos²x - 1 = 0

(1) heeft als oplossing x = 0,5 en x = 1,5

Dan verder:
cos²x = 1
cos x = 1 (2) of cos x = -1 (3)

(2) heeft als oplossing x = 0
(3) heeft als oplossing x =
